If you’re an artist looking to record new music soon, then you’re going to want to take a look at American Express’ latest funding initiative.

Earlier this month, the company announced $1 million in funding to the Australian music industry, a portion of which will go to 50 local musicians to help them record new music and receive industry mentoring as part of Music Backers Studio Week this November.

Recipients will receive a full day at one of 10 studios to record with some of the country’s best producers and access to a virtual mentoring workshop.

After Music Backer Studio Week takes place, a judging panel will select one recipient to be awarded a $5,000 grant to assist in releasing and promoting their new track.

“The pandemic has impacted artists hard; it has made creating and releasing music, and connecting with fans, more challenging than ever,” Unified Music Group Senior Artist Manager and Studio Week workshop host Nick Yates said.

“This latest initiative from American Express will provide signed and un-signed artists the opportunity they need to keep doing what they do best, and in turn ensure the country is able to continue to listen to new music.”

The next instalment of the Music Backers Fund arrives as American Express reveals that 64% of artists have released no or less music than originally planned since March when the COVID pandemic hit.
