A star-studded line-up of music legends have joined forces to cover a goth anthem to raise funds for COVID relief.
The Mission frontman Wayne Hussey has enlisted members of The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Smiths and more alongside the likes of Gary Numan and Midge Ure for a remake of the band’s ‘80s hit Tower Of Strength that will raise funds for charities that have been personally chosen by each contributor.
“When COVID-19 hit I started receiving messages asking ‘why don’t you re-issue Tower Of Strength for the front line workers?’ The song had apparently been adopted as an anthem by some NHS workers, and it got me thinking that I would like to contribute something to the greater cause at this unprecedented time and the only thing I could really contribute is music,” Hussey said.
Numan added: “Being given the chance to do some good to raise money for people and animals struggling in these frightening times by singing one of the best songs ever written was such an easy thing to say yes to. An absolute honour to be involved.”
Other contributors include Rachel Goswell (Slowdive), Andy Rourke (The Smiths), Billy Duffy (The Cult), Budgie, (Siouxsie & The Banshees, The Creatures) Evi Vine, Jay & Michael Aston, (Gene Loves Jezebal), Julianne Regan (All About Eve), Kevin Haskins (Bauhaus), Kirk Brandon (Theatre Of Hate, Spear Of Destiny), Miles Hunt (The Wonder Stuff), Lol Tolhurst (The Cure), Martin Gore (Depeche Mode) and more.
The track is also set to be remixed by Trentemöller and Tim Palmer.
The new version of Tower Of Strength will be released digitally on August 28.
