Adelaide’s proposed reboot of an iconic Aussie event is one step closer to becoming a reality, with a local council giving the New Year’s Day event their recommendation.

Earlier this week, it was reported that South Australia could be bringing back Australian Made, an all-Aussie touring festival from the late ‘80s that featured INXS, Jimmy Barnes, Mental As Anything and more, for a one-off event at Thebarton Oval and Kings Reserve.

The proposal submitted to West Torrens Council on behalf of Adelaide-based event management company Weslo Holdings was taken to a meeting earlier this week and it’s been revealed today that the council has given organisers its “principle consent”, with some conditions.

For the concert to go ahead, organisers must obtain consent from SA Health and SA Police, address any potential noise, transport and crowd issues and more.

The proposed 2021 edition of Australian Made is expected to host six-eight Australian bands across one or two stages from 2pm – 11pm, with crowds of up to 25,000 expected, just shy of its ’87 attendance rate of 30,000 in Adelaide.

If all goes to plan, organisers are hoping to make an announcement in early September.

The Music has reached out to Weslo Holdings for comment.
