A number of COVID-19 restrictions will be eased in Tasmania starting this Friday as the State Government announced it has gone 39 days without an active case of coronavirus. 

Premier Peter Gutwein announced the eased restrictions today, including nightclubs being allowed to reopen while gathering sizes will also increase to a maximum of 500 (outdoor) and 250 (per undivided indoor space) across all premises.

"Tasmanians are to be congratulated on their continued efforts to keep one another safe, including maintaining high testing numbers to ensure we know if there is detection of the virus in the community," Gutwein said.

"To date we remain at 39 days without an active case of coronavirus, and there have been 45,440 tests – with 656 tests conducted yesterday."

He added, "The Tasmanian Government will continue to engage with our public health experts as we manage the coronavirus situation in our state.

"While the virus is not eradicated, nor is there a vaccine, we have in place our four safeguards, which continue to be our best defence against the virus, and I ask Tasmanians not to become complacent."

The news comes after WA Premier Mark McGowan announced on Monday that the state will enter Phase 4 this Saturday, which will see live music venues and concert halls be able to host "unseated performances".

Meanwhile in Victoria, venue operators around the state will be forced revise their comebacks due to the State Of Emergency being extended until 19 July following a spike in COVID cases.
