Revered Australian musician Stephan Fidock has passed away following a battle with cancer.
Fidock’s former bandmates from The Reels, Dave Mason and John Bliss, confirmed the drummer passed away on Sunday, describing him as “a beautiful, gentle and talented man”.
“He was a friend, a person I could rely on to always tell me the truth, usually in the driest of humour, but always gently,” Bliss said.
“You will be missed, my friend. Lots of love from my family to yours.”
Fidock joined The Reels in the early ‘80s after the release Quasimodo's Dream and was with the band for iconic LP Beautiful, which featured the group’s biggest hit, This Guy's In Love With You, and Cry, the latter of which was written by Fidock.
He then went onto join Sacred Cowboys in 1987, performing with the swampy, blues punk outfit until the early ‘90s and then when they reformed in ’94 and ’06, while also having worked with revered musicians such as Steve Connolly and Richard Pleasance.
Fidock was also an acclaimed drum maker, owning and operating Fidock Handcrafted Drums, which he details in the below video.
