Australian talent continues to have a big impact overseas, with a handful of local outfits being nominated for gongs at the 2020 Libera Awards, the largest independent music awards in the world.
Locals Courtney Barnett, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Julia Jacklin, Amyl & The Sniffers and Alex Cameron all make an appearance on the nominees list, joining international heavyweights Chance The Rapper, FKA Twigs, The National and more.
Jacklin’s second studio album, Crushing – which The Music described as intimate and relatable and was one of our top albums of last year – has been nominated for Best Folk/Bluegrass Album (alongside Patty Griffin and more) and Breakthrough Artist/Release.
Prolific rockers King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, who confirmed earlier today their feature-length music doco is coming this month, are also up for two awards, claiming nods in both the Best Metal Album (for Infest The Rats' Nest) and Best Outlier Album (for Fishing For Fishies) categories, the latter of which Cameron's Miami Memory is also vying for.
Meanwhile, after appearing on Instagram Live festival ISOL-AID last weekend, Barnett has been nominated for Best Live Act, alongside Flying Lotus, Mavis Staples and more.
Rounding out the local love is Amyl & The Sniffers, whose self-titled LP is up for Best Punk/Emo Album, a category which also features US punk legends Bad Religion alongside American Football, The Menzingers and more.
This year’s awards ceremony will be streamed live due to COVID-19, taking place on June 18.
