Beloved Australian actor Saskia Post, star of cult hit Dogs In Space, has passed away.

The news was made public overnight, with a statement announcing she passed away on Monday at Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital following cardiac arrest.

Based on Melbourne’s post-punk scene at the time, ‘86 flick Dogs In Space saw Post star alongside Michael Hutchence. The film was written and directed by Richard Lowenstein, who worked extensively with INXS and also oversaw the Mystify: Michael Hutchence documentary.

Prior to starring in Dogs In Space, Post featured in mid-‘80s cult hits such as One Night Stand and Bliss, and also appeared in TV series Return To Eden the same year the influential film was released.

After Dogs In Space, Post had a minor role in 1991’s Proof, which featured Hugo Weaving and Russell Crowe, and then starred in True Love & Chaos, alongside Miranda Otto, Naveen Andrews and more.

She also featured across numerous stage productions in Melbourne and Sydney, including Hating Alison Ashley, Salome, Train To Transcience and more.
