Elton John is currently in the midst of his epic Australian farewell tour and he's taken the opportunity to highlight some new Australian talent while he's Down Under.

John has dedicated this week's edition of his Rocket Hour radio show on Apple Music to Australian artists, with Tones & I, Amy Shark and Winston Surfshirt joining him for an exclusive interview.

“I get to meet new artists like yourselves and I become friends with them and it's just been one of the greatest things of doing this show [Rocket Hour],” said John in the interview.

He also used the chance to credit each of the artists for their success.

"It's fantastic — it's one of the great pop records of all time," he told Tones & I of her mega-hit Dance Monkey. "I put it up there with Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen, which is one of my favourites. They say women are being left behind. No, I don't think so. You're dominating and I'm glad."

"It's a continuation of your style," he said of Winston Surfshirt's Apple Crumble. "It's funky, laid back, really cool stuff, not so complicated as Steely Dan but kind of in that kind of vein." He also told Shark that her album Love Monster was "one of my favourite albums of the year".
