Hilltop Hoods' opportunity to make ARIA chart history could be jeopardised thanks to this week's Oscars.

Though the hip hop trio's eighth album, The Great Expanse, is predicted to debut in the top three of the Albums chart and challenge for #1, it's likely that the soundtracks for A Star Is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody will again push for top spot following the respective wins for Best Song (Shallow) and Best Actor (Rami Malek).

The soundtracks placed at at #3 and #2 last weekend.

Hilltop Hoods are looking to be just the third act in ARIA history to post five-straight #1 albums, next to fellow Aussie legends, Silverchair and Powderfinger.

The trio have already cracked the record if you include their 2016-released remix album, Drinking from the Sun, Walking Under Stars Restrung, however they currently sit at four number one records when it comes specifically to studio albums.

Other debuts this week include Dream Theater's Distance Over Time, Julia Jacklin's Crushing (both top ten) and Gary Clark Jr's This Land (top 25).

Meanwhile over on the Singles chart, Ariana Grande five-week reign atop the list 7 Rings could be over as Shallow is set to move back into the top three and push for #1, following Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's acclaimed Oscars performance.

The only debut this week comes from Pink with Walk Me Home (top ten).
