Shining a spotlight on Australia’s finest screen composers, tonight’s Screen Music Awards ceremony in Melbourne saw Briggs, Missy Higgins and more score accolades.
Higgins won her first ever Screen Music Award, with Torchlight from Don’t Tell picking up Best Original Song Composed for the Screen, while Briggs powerful work for Fox League Super Saturday saw him pick up his first ever screen composition prize, with the song awarded Best Television Theme.
“I created this track as the theme for the Fox League channel – the song reflects the journey of the Indigenous players – who give so much excitement and leadership to the sport and community week in and week out, not just the specific Indigenous round,” Briggs said.
Feature Film Score of the Year went to Antony Partos for his work on Jasper Jones, Best Soundtrack Album was awarded to Jed Kurzel for Alien: Covenant and revered Australian musician, producer, film and television composer Martin Armiger was honoured with the inaugural Distinguished Services to the Australian Screen Award.
The event, held at Recital Centre, also saw performances from Higgins and her brother, David Higgins, Briggs (joined by Caiti Baker and Justin Shave), Jacqueline Dark, James Egglestone and Jessica Wells.
