Well, talk about your mountains out of molehills; it would seem that the widely reported beef between Marilyn Manson and Justin Bieber isn't really as big a deal as it's been made out to be.
In case you missed the spark that lit the ensuing flames, Bieber made the faux-pas of "reinterpreting" an old Manson merch design for his own purposes, selling the shirts for $US200 (about $250) a pop.
Then, on meeting the Antichrist Superstar scribe, Bieber apparently told Manson he'd made him "relevant again", to which Manson responded in an interview with Consequence Of Sound, "He was a real piece of shit in the way he had the arrogance to say that."
(He did acknowledge, however, that he received the proceeds from the sales of the shirt.)
But, as NME reports, there doesn't really seem to be a lasting desire on either side to turn the disagreement into an ongoing issue.
Appearing on Howard Stern's radio show, Manson shared a text-message exchange with Bieber following the negative press coverage, during which the pop singer apologised and the veteran rocker insisted everything was fine, even suggesting (jokingly?) a collaboration.
"Bro, it's Bieber, what's up with that article?" the Baby singer apparently texted. "I thought we had a pretty pleasant interaction. Also, if anything wasn't squared away with the T-shirts I'm so sorry … Anyway, regardless, it kind of stung seeing that, if I came off as an asshole or was just an asshole, I'm sorry."
Manson explained in reply to Bieber that his original comments had been "exaggerated", responding in a text: "You were just being you. No beef here."
"We are cool," he continued in another text. "People just made that shirt stuff into a fake feud. Let's turn it upside-down and fuck the press and do something together. It will be the best. And don't apologise, you weren't an asshole. They asked if you were, and I sort of agreed. I wasn't out to get you."
So, there you go. Beef over, and maybe even a Manson/Bieber collab on the horizon. We live in weird times, friends.
Manson's 10th studio full-length, Heaven Upside Down, will be released on Friday 6 October. You can hear the audio from Stern's show, and watch the clip for new single We Know Where You Fucking Live, below.
