After teasing fans on social media in recent weeks, celebrated Aussie singer-songwriter Missy Higgins has confirmed she will make her theatrical debut later this year.
The folk pop favourite posted an image to Facebook in costume for theatrical musical production Miracle City, announcing she will play Bonnie Mae alongside Lara Mulcahy (Les Miserables, Mamma Mia!), Gus Murray (The Great Gatsby, Packed To The Rafters) and more in the acclaimed Australian musical from playwright Nick Enright and composer Max Lambert.
“It's funny and tragic and entertaining and moving and all the good stuff,” Higgins said.
“I'm so happy to be a part of it and amongst such an amazing team of people. I've loved musical theatre ever since I was a kid and have dreamt about being in a professional production for ages.
“Now it's happening, whoop! So come along, I think we'll all be in for a good time. And if nothing else, you'll get to see me dancing in a church gown with a wig on.”
The production follows a ‘televangelist’ family from Tennessee who want to build a Christian amusement park but needs cash to make it happen, and on that quest for financial support comes a wealth of issues.
Miracle City will premiere at Sydney Opera House on October 12, running until October 29, with tickets on sale next Monday, August 28.
